devlog of Star Kirby : Mirror Adventure

Success:
The successful things of this game are the sprite animation, game loop, and level design. I used Pixilart to draw all the game textures and spirits; I think they are very close to the original style. I did a lot of test play about the game loop to ensure that the player can restart or exit the game when the game fails or wins. As for the design of the levels, I hope that each level has a unique scene, just like every mirror in the original work leads to a different world, so I designed the levels on the grassland and the beach separately, and the way to clear the levels has some difficulty.
Failure:
In terms of code, I tried to make some sound effects last when switching levels but failed. I tried to add keyboard selection control, but this only works on the title page. Sometimes the position of the star block makes the game dead, but the player cannot choose to start over.
Lessons learned:
The lesson I learned is to plan a game early and thoroughly, including pre-conceived gameplay, game level content, and soundtracks and texture design. Even though my game is based on the original work this time, creating textures and soundtracks while making the game makes the process a bit hectic.
Future Development:
For future development, I would like to add more levels and improve the UI interface so that players can restart the game anytime and improve the soundtrack; the current background music is very short and repetitive because of the hurried production. And last is to add more animations to make the whole game more dynamic.
